There are bars everywhere and beer is pretty cheap. Casinos and massages are other attractions. To put it in a nutshell, the place offers something for everyone. What's more is that it is not very expensive to visit.

Located in southern Cambodia, on the Bay of Thailand, Sihanoukville is Cambodia's main port. Nicknamed Snooky, the city is named after King Norodom Sihanouk. It was founded in 1960 and immediately became a popular tourist centre. However, the Vietnam War and other conflicts stinted its development right up to the 1990s. In the last decade or so, though, it has really come alive, prompting the New York Times to call it "Asia's next trendsetting beach". It is attracting more and more visitors every year, where once only hardy backpackers made the trip.

Sihanoukville still needs a lot of work in terms of facilities and sprucing up, but for many, that is part of the charm of this picturesque beach destination. Many early visitors from around the world have found it hard to tear themselves away from Sihanoukville and have chosen to settle down here. Many of the Sihanoukville hotels, bars and other establishments are run by these expats, giving the place an international flavour, particularly when it comes to the cuisine. Sihanoukville restaurants are numerous and the food is diverse while being consistently delicious. The freshly caught seafood is especially good.

There are ample places to stay in Sihanoukville for its growing number of tourists. Our site features an interactive Sihanoukville map and pictures of each of the hotels in Sihanoukville, including individual rooms and facilities. With us, you will never need to wonder what kind of hotel and room you are booking or exactly where it is. You can also find out a little about who you are staying with as it features details and images of the hotel owners and/or managers.

Sihanoukville is just three and a half hours by road from the capital Phnom Penh which is 185 km to the northeast. City folk flock to Sihanoukville on weekends and during holidays. But with so many beaches and islands around, it is not hard to find privacy and seclusion. Accommodation in Sihanoukville ranges from very basic guest houses to star rated Sihanoukville hotels and resorts. Frequent visitors recommend that you choose your beach first and then find the most suitable Sihanoukville accommodation near it.

It is entirely up to you what you make of Sihanoukville. It can be a wild unrestrained ride or a relaxing and restful snooze. It can even be both. One thing is for certain, it will be loads of fun, whatever you chose.

Being local we are perfectly placed to help you choose Sihanoukville hotels, Sihanoukville tours and assist in making the most of your Sihanoukville holiday - why not try some delicious local seafood or explore some of the secluded islands or simply just lay back and relax on the beach and let us do the rest!
